Vang Vieng, Laos

Yesterday, we arrived in Vang Vieng! Immediately, we met up with 2 English girls and went tubing along the river, which really consists of tubing from bar to bar. We zip-lined above the river and then jumped in from high above, which was awesome!  We made it to 3 bars before it got dark. After losing our sandals, we somehow we made it back across the river and through the woods to a taxi.
The area of Vang Vieng boast gorgeous limestone mountains, caves, and lagoons. Today, we went to the Tham Jang cave. We had to climb hundreds of stairs to the top (I didn't look down), but the climb was worth it. The scenery here is beautiful!

We booked our ticket to the 4000 islands (Don Det) for tomorrow. It will take us 20 hours. After that we plan to visit Siem Reap and Ankor Wat. Then, we may have to return to Bangkok for an interview/ teaching demonstration before heading to the beaches of Thailand!

* Upon returning home, we learned that young globetrotters are literally partying to death in alarming numbers in the party capital of Southeast Asia, Vang Vieng. The large quantities of cheap alcohol served in beach buckets combined with drugs and a free-for-all atmosphere cause the partiers to take incredible risks on the ziplines, slides, and  rope swings. Because so many young foreigners have died here, locals avoid the river and believe that there are evil spirits in the water. Randi and didn't lose all our inhibitions, but for us we're glad it will be a once in a lifetime experience.
